how to use 'talk'

Use the '+' button on the top to start a new topic, enter a subject, and type away. At the end of you post you can add a signature to your post by use of ~~~~ (four tildes).

Once a post has been made it will have an 'edit' link that you can use to revisit it. This is also used to add your comments to the end of the subject. Again, remember to 'sign' your entry with the tildes.

Help Section

As Pollitt suggested, I've made a start on the help section and moved what few help pages there were into some sort of structure. Please add anything useful you discover to the appropriatte place.

Templates

I've updated the templates help page a little but I'm aware that it's still a bit confusing and lacking in detail. I'll try to imporve the descriptions as I go along.

The 'infobox river section' does not currently add country or region categories to the page by default. I felt that the 'menu' of rivers could then become clogged with multiple entries for the same river - if there is a section page then there should be a river page, rivers with only one section will just have a river page. If you do want to categorise a section by country or region, the category can be added manually to the page. What do folks think?

Grades

I've moved the grades discussion to the Talk:Grade page. Seems like a good idea you move biggers discussions to the relevant page.

Timezone

Fixed the timezone.

Bloody hell this is harder than Ameila made it look.

Idiot's Guide

I'll have a go at producing a kind of idiot's guide with screenshots etc for the help page, probably tomorrow evening, if no one's already made a start on one. For the moment it'll just explain the basics of getting a page started etc.

Good plan, I started something very rough in an attempt to help Wayne out, but feel free to replace it, re-do it or whatever.

Charlie 13:44, 21 August 2007 (BST)

Excellent idea Amelia, I will wait for your guide before criticizing it :-)

Ah, completely run out of time to do this tonight! Looked at what's already there though and it should be enough for people to be getting on with - as you said, best advice it to copy and paste from a similar page.

I was also wondering how the logo on the top left of the screen gets changed? Can't figure it out, but it'd be good to shrink is to about 150 pixels wide to stop it sitting over the writing.

Just found the logo, it's logo.png

Interestingly just found if you just type in a web address for a piccie it seems to insert the picture without any extra coding needed

http://www.yourhorsephotos.com/canoeing/barle/1.jpg

I'll have a play with resizing it tomorrow evening if no one's done it beforehand.

The current logo file was just something I stick up there, so feel free to ditch it, change it, re-do it or whatever. It may require FTP to uploda it to the site, if so just email it to me and I'll do it. If it doesn't need FTP, let me know how you did it. Nice find on the pictures thing.

What about a colour logo. I was just thinking a colour logo on a similar vain of paddle-guide would just add something to the page look.

This is an idea only, and not a suggestion but ideas form it might be good:

By the way what is a '.png' when its at home, and for me I cant alter the logo (or cant find how), al it seems to do is link back to the main page or give me info.

Love the paddle idea, tho the background image probably needs to be more graphicy than a photo. The concept's great! As a quick fix I resized the logo and added text, but can't get it to work as I can't get into the local settings php file. Here it is if someone else can:

Canals?

We have sections for Rivers and Lochs. Will we have one for canals?

- KeithD

Yep - for now I guess use the 'infobox river' (copy a river page) and set the type to Canal. That will create a Canal Category automagically.

User ID Page

Ideas on account holders having their own page? and if so what would the infobox name be. Personally I am not sure about it but I hate seeing the red text.

Lakeland Pete 20:49, 21 August 2007 (BST)

You can put whatever you want on the page, it's a good place to store links and stuff you find useful. The infobox is just another thing that can be added to pages, something I made up (copied from Wikipedia) to add to 'location' pages, a page doesn't have to have one.

River Access Template

I noticed that in one of the river guides there was a link to an Access England Template.

Well I thought that a basic table or something might be useful regarding Access to allow users to see at a glance safe access or unknown access.

To begin with I have gone simple:

Template: Access England

What do people think? Is this idea good or bad and please make any changes that you think best.
